Were you ever on a shopping spree with friends or family and need to wash your hands? Maybe you’re new to Altoona and don’t know the stores and public restrooms too well? Or even if you are from around here, what stores’ restrooms are suitable for you and your family? Wouldn’t it be nice if someone could give you a report about them every week so you’d know where to lead your child when he or she is screaming in the middle of the mall, “I gotta go, mommy!”?
I have found myself in some of these situations and feel your pain. Well, I don’t have kids, but I can only imagine what it would be like. I was scarred for life when I was younger by some pretty nasty bathrooms. Maybe that’s what leads me to want write this. I call it: The Restroom Report.
Every week I will pick a section of Altoona (and the surrounding boroughs) to check out the bathrooms. I will arm myself with a list of questions, such as:
-How often are your restrooms cleaned?
     -Are any out of order?
-Do you have to be a customer or buy something to use them?
     -Are they handicap accessible?
-How about a diaper changing station?
Along with the answers to these questions, I will also tell you how to find the restrooms, because I know that can be a challenge of its own in some stores.
Also there will be the “Do Not Even Think About It” list. The restrooms you wouldn’t even want your enemies using. Maybe listing these locations will bring the owners’ attention to the problem and they can do something about it.
Everyone deserves a clean restroom to go to. Whether it’s to floss your teeth or reapply your eyeliner, it’s a place we all have to visit and should be well lit and sanitary.
